The Programs Offered
Here are our plans for the programs to be offered at Silverwind Ranch
Silverwind Outreach Riding Camp for Children
Free Summer Camp - This will be a free, week-long summer riding camp for underprivelged children in the Texas Hill Country, starting with my own back yard of Burnet County. Program will consist of daily riding and care of horses, along with instruction on various aspects of horsemanship including breeds of horses, tack & equipment, common ailments, and basic hoof care just to name a few. There will also be several "field trips" to points of interest locally. The week will culminate in a "horse show" & dinner for friends and family where the children may "show off" what they have learned. All children will receive a certificate of achievement, ribbon for participating in the "horse show", and a shirt from Silverwind Outreach Riding Camp for Children with their picture on the front of them and their favorite horse. This camp will help children develop friendships, team work, leadership, and responsibility. It will also provide underpriveleged children a chance to go to summer camp - an opportunity that they may otherwise not have.

- Discount Riding Lessons - This will be a program 3 days a week for 5 weeks during the school year on basic riding skills. Advanced classes will eventually be available as each child progresses through our riding program. This will basically be an after school program and only be available during the school year. We will also teach children basic horse care. This program will provide an opportunity to children that otherwise could not afford to ride horses to come and learn. Sponsorships will be offered to those that cannot afford the low price we will set for this program.
- This is my way of thanking our veterans for everything they have done for our country. By appointment, veterans and military personnel may come ride our horses and receive riding instruction at no charge.
- We would like to be able to provide the means for Boy & Girl Scouts to earn their horsemanship badges at Silverwind Ranch.
- Future plans include expanding to include a therapeutic riding program for the disabled.
Silverwind Scholarship Program
- This program will offer 2 students (to start with) from each high school in Burnet & Llano counties a one-time $10,000 scholarship to pursue studies in the equine field. The scholarship will be valid for both university/college or trade school (farrier school, riding/training school, etc) programs. All applicants will be required to fill out an application and submit an essay on their achievements (both academically and in the equine field), why they want to pursue a career with equines, and why they feel we should award them the scholarship. In the future, we plan to make this a renewable scholarship for up to four years based on GPA.
